Reflection Blog Post

Throughout this semester in this course, I have learned many valuable skills that I can input into the rest of my college career and for whatever occupation I obtain after that. Having a hybrid set-up class, in my opinion, is more beneficial than being enrolled in one or the other. This is because you learn skills that are more prominent in the real world since communication happens equally between online and in person creation, meetings, and media topics.

One of my favorite projects that I completed this semester was the final video project because it gave me a lot of freedom to create what I wanted and express the topic that I have been working on throughout this class. I enjoyed the other assignments too, but it was very specific directions. With specific directions, I learned a lot about how to navigate editing and different platforms for creating multimedia so It was a significant aspect of my learning through this semester.

In my future, I see myself working with some type of multimedia management or advertising, which includes a lot of media production. Because of my plan, this class was very useful to me because the basis is to learn technical and communication skills. A skill that I think would be valuable for this class that could be easily implemented would be to add an aspect of public speaking over a multimedia platform, I think by adding this it could help with the potential of an interview or some sort of set up that requires the person editing, to be in front of the camera or being the editing format.

Overall, this class has helped my progress in editing immensely and I will carry the skills that I have learned in this course through the rest of my careers in and out of college. As technology is ever-changing and advancing, I believe the skills I have learned will help me navigate whatever projects I endure next.

Video Story Final

For my video story project, I decided to create a demonstrative video that portrayed a big factor of my fitness journey, my daily workout routine. In this video, I had my friend Grace demonstrate my step-by-step workout that has impacted my journey immensely. Initially, my rough draft showed an idea of what I wanted to do for my final but I knew it was not exactly how I wanted it to look. My draft showed my two friends demonstrating some easy at home workouts, but didn’t have a finalized touch on it because of the setting, transitions, narration, etc. After submitting this draft and getting reviews from my peers, it made it a lot easier to see where I could improve and how I wanted my final draft to look. I started by changing the setting of my video, since this is about fitness, the most appropriate setting would be some sort of scenery that represents that; which is why I decided to film at the recreational center. I then added in a narrative in the beginning to clarify exactly what my video is about. After my narration ends, the actual demonstration begins and I added a background music that matches the theme of the video, which is high energy and fast paced. I also cut multiple short clips and added in portions to give the video a more professional look, for example I did a pan of the setting in the beginning, and then added a clip of running shoes being tied to set the theme of the whole video. Between each clip, I added a smooth transition to easily move into the next segment. And along with each segment is a title to clarify what is being demonstrated. All of this together shows what I would expect a demonstrative video to hold and represent, and think it represents my topic of fitness exactly how I hoped it would.

Video Story Draft

I created this video to represent my topic because it relates directly to health and fitness. My video is a demonstrative video of two of my friends showing simple at-home workouts. For this draft, I plan for my complete final submission to have an in-depth narrative on what exactly is going on in the video and how they helped me at home for my own fitness journey. My draft post is two videos combined, the first is of my friend demonstrating different kinds of push-ups, and then second video that I transitioned after that is my other friend demonstrating multiple sit ups. Initially, I added a title at the beginning of a black screen to start, and then as the first video started, i added text description for 10 seconds explaining what is going on, who is in the video, and who it was edited by. Once that ends, the audio I added of background music begins to play and Vanessa begins to demonstrate the workout. After the first video ends, I added a transition so that the video looks smoother and put together, with the intentions that it’s not a choppy video and looks finalized. After the transition, my other friend begins, and I start the similar introduction process of what’s going on with her and what she will be demonstrating, but the audio is different because what she is doing is a change of pace. For the final version, I am thinking of adding two more short clips to the beginning and end of the video of some type of other scenery and workout tips either narrated or demonstrated by me. I also plan to add in audio of myself with the background audio music behind it, but lightly so that it does not overpower what I’m trying to say.

Audio Story Final

What inspired this story was that I wanted to create a platform that represented and reflected my topic of healthy lifestyle changes and perspectives of others and what they think about this topic. Because of this, I decided to do an interview story because this topic, especially going vegan can be pretty conflicting for some and not everyone agrees so I thought it would be interesting to get the perspective of my friend Johhny who is not vegan and what his viewpoint on this was. In the process of this creation, I wanted to tell the interview just how it was and not make too big of a change since everything that was said in the interview was relevant and valuable to the story. Initially, the two segments of this story were divided and I wanted to merge them through adobe auction to create a clear storyline of what was going on. After listening to the feedback from my peers, I decided to create a smoother introduction to set the rest up the audio story up for an interview. I removed white noise from the background because in my feedback, I was told it was taking away from the story. I also elaborated more in depth on the questions I was asking in order to get more of a complete interview and story. I collected the sounds from my friend Johnny who has different lifestyle habits then me so my idea was to interview him in hopes that it would give more insight to this topic since he expressed interest in possibly attempting some sort of change, even if its just adding more physical activity into his daily routine. Some technical challenges that I came across when trying to edit was how to create one smooth audio story without a transition that made it seem obvious that something had been done to it. To fix that, I plan to add in a smoother transition and then overlay a sound to mask that. Another issue I came across was how to go about adding sounds into a narrative since there is not much room to add background noise or ambient sounds without taking away from the whole story.

Because of this, I decided to do an interview story because this topic, especially going vegan can be pretty conflicting for some and not everyone agrees so I thought it would be interesting to get the perspective of my friend shea who is not vegan and what her viewpoint on this was. In the process of this creation, I wanted to tell the interview just how it was and not make too big of a change since everything that was said in the interview was relevant and valuable to the story. Initially, the two segments of this story were divided and I wanted to merge them through adobe auction to create a clear storyline of what was going on. For my final draft, I plan to add additional sounds and effects to the beginning of the story, in between the pauses, and at the end to give it a more finished story plot. I collected the sounds from my friend shea who has different lifestyle habits then me so my idea was to interview her in hopes that it would give more insight to this topic since she expressed interest in possibly attempting some sort of change from what I told her about my topic and how she thinks it could benefit her personally. Some technical challenges that I came across when trying to edit was how to create one smooth audio story without a transition that made it seem obvious that something had been done to it. To fix that, I plan to add in a smoother transition and then overlay a sound to mask that.

This is the interview of shea getting a different perspective on the topic, I plan to use this towards the interview portion of my final and tell the story with a narrative and interview follow-up.
This is the beginning narrative of my story, the preview to my interview.

Logo Project Final

At the beginning of this project, my idea was to create a logo that represented my topic clearly and in two separate ways; visually and through the words that are displayed. I started with wanting to create some sort of banner, I chose this because my topic is about repressing a healthy lifestyle and more specifically, going vegan. This type of logo reminded me of the logo that initially prompted me to begin my lifestyle-changing journey. The logo represents a banner of accomplishment since going vegan is a major lifestyle change, and the colors I chose are green because it is commonly associated with health and natural factors. I also included the leaves to be an eye-catcher since I decided to leave the outside banner white.

I started by drawing my banner and knowing I wanted to include both sayings into my logo while still keeping it somewhat simplistic. After creating my draft, I got feedback that I agreed with and decided to change before submitting my final draft. Initially, I had two different fonts within the logo because I thought it gave perception of the different words and differentiated them showing that they both represented different things. But after receiving feedback, I saw that it made the whole logo look less cohesive, so for my final I decided to keep the same font throughout the entire logo. I also had included two leaves on the outside of the banner to add additional attention to the logo, but looked less high-quality and took away from the words. I changed this by using the vector tool and creating my own leaves with contrasting, vibrant colors that brings the whole piece together. I added color to everything by putting a green in the middle center where the main focus words are; I chose green because it is eye-catching and easily connected to healthy and natural perceptions; I decided to leave the outside portion of the banner white because I did not want to add too much color and take away from the logo. After adding color by using the fill tool, I created a gradient to make the color look less blocky and more official. After changing the font to all match, I used the straight line tool to create two matching lines to put underneath the words “Go Vegan”, then I used the invert tool to curve them and put them to underline the already cursive fonts on the banner.
